It’s a f-you song to the record label. When you’re developing as an artist you have to kinda fight the stereotype of what everybody’s expecting of you, what way you should be, how you should look, what color your hair should be, how your make up should be and what you should wear. But the most important thing is if you like you and if you like the way you look”.

– Bebe Rexha on the song

"The Way I Are (Dance with Somebody)" is the lead single and third track from Bebe Rexha's third Extended Play "All Your Fault: Pt. 2". It features American rapper Lil Wayne. The single was leaked a week before its release, though it was deleted soon after.

Background Edit

Bebe said she and the writers were in the studio for five hours making the song, but that was because they were eating and taking breaks and coming back and working on hooks. Then they did revisit the song a lot after that. The production and stuff, but the actual creation of the song was pretty quick. The track was inspired by Whitney Huston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)". When Bebe got Lil Wayne's verse, She was like, “Wow.” I was like, “This reminds me kind of the old Wayne.”. When he said, “I just want to dance with somebody, but I could never, ever dance like Bobby.” Bebe was like, “Whitney and Bobby is, like, yo.” I was like, “That’s amazing.”

Critical reception Edit

Mike Wass of Idolator gave the song a positive review, calling the single "instantly hummable and sweet relief from the endless stream of left-of-center pop songs on radio."

Music video Edit

The music video directed by Director X was released on June 1, 2017. The fashion for the music video was inspired by vintage movies such as Grease. The video features video game Just Dance 2018 which the song is featured on.

Live performances Edit

Bebe Rexha and Lil Wayne performed the single together on Jimmy Kimmel! Live. Rexha later performed a solo version of the song on Good Morning America as part of their Summer Concert Series.
